On Monday, June 20th, 2005, a meeting was held at the Mablethorpe Community Hall by East Lindsey District Council, to discuss Aims and Priorities of the Council in the Coastal Strip. Five of our members attended the meeting and enquired about grants available to improve the arts and culture in our area. We were immediately provided with forms to fill in and contacts to make and advised to work out a viable project, with aims costs etc. We decided to go for the option of a project to tour shows in the area, which would attack the problem of lack of public transport in the area while benefitting the older generation who might find travel difficult in the area. We applied to the Council, to Awards for All ( a lottery funded grant), to Rural Fizz (the Lincolnshire Community Funding body) and to the Co-operative Society. By January 2006, we had been granted £500.00 from East Lindsey Arts and Culture, £4000.00 from Rural Fizz, £5000.00 from Awards for All and £1000.00 from The Co-operative Society. So now we had to spend it! We bought a beautiful new box trailer from Blue Line, a Lincolnshire firm and had it painted with our logo by local artist, Mary Goodrick. Graham Hanson, another Lincolnshire firm, supplied us with a wonderful new sound and lights system, fully portable, ideal to tour with. Our next purchase was an all singing, all dancing keyboard, which our resident pianist, Marie Sutton, soon got to grips with. So now we began to take our shows around local village halls, where we were much appreciated. Some of our members have formed a group called "The Melodymakers." They are retired artistes but still very active. Marie, Patricia, Beryl and Dennis have taken shows to care homes and community halls and are always very well received. If you would like them to do a show at your local venue, why not try them. Their only charge is a small donation to Cancer Research UK. |
